Absolutely no one in the White House Press Corps was surprised.
Several, including one of my favorites Brit Hume, admitted that they had heard her express similar hateful statements throughout her career. Most Americans have seen Ms. Thomas turn what was supposed to be a question into some harangue of the President or his spokespeople.After one long and winding “question” from Thomas, the late Tony Snow thanked her and said it was always helpful to get the Hezbollah point of view.
How long do you think Ms. Thomas would have lasted if she had been anti-Muslim or pro-Christian? The liberal press would have eaten her alive if she dared to say anything conservative. But she got a pass to carry-on against Israel because she was bashing Israel.
Helen Thomas made a career out of cranky, hateful tirades. Any trail she blazed took us to dark places few Americans need to go.
Shame on the media.
